Baby’s First Snow
We recently had the opportunity to introduce our daughter to her very first snowfall. Needless to say, she enjoyed it immensely. Even though she couldn’t move around much by herself.
While her big brother ran around throwing snowballs and fighting off snow giants, she stayed toasty warm in her thrift store down onesie. This is great becuase it makes her look like a giant flannel marshmallow.
We almost always walk our kids to their 3-day-a-week daycare in every kind of weather. They enjoy the early morning walk and the late afternoon walk as they can get fresh air even if it’s super cold out. This is one way we can make sure they get some time outside almost every day.
Walking daily, is also a great learning opportunity. My son sees how the community works on different days. He loves to spot garbage trucks and figure out what the different colored bins mean. We work on counting by looking at house numbers and figure out how to read street signs. These are all necessary skills for a growing person.
So what is even better than garbage trucks? It introduces them to many of the people along the route. These are folks we might never normally run into. It gives them (and myself) an opportunity to stay social and learn how to make conversation and be neighborly.
Cold? Rain? Heat? Bring it on. We’ll be walking and enjoying it.
